[ST] Re: (whew)...

The good news: The Gracious One and I got to take the weekend off and go
ride up to the Sierra Rally in Porterville (Sierra Foothills) from Ellay.

The bad news: She crashed hard on the way up. Tight, technical road
(Breckenridge above Bakersfield), deep gravel on the straight between two
corners, she didn't look for it until too late. grabbed the brake and
faceplanted at 30.

AGV Q3R, Aerostich, Held gloves.Left hand and chin took the full impact.
Aerostich basically unscathed until the ER team cut it off her.

She was fully unconscious for over two minutes and disoriented and slightly
delusional for several hours. Vague for two days...quite a concussion.

My emotional reaction is obviously something I still haven't dealt with.
Practically, I attended a Field Trauma class taught by John Holschen of
Insights Training (www.insightstraining.com), and can't possibly say enough
good things about it. By the time I got off my bike, I had a plan, worked
the plan, and it worked. Otherwise, I probably would have been in jello
mode until the grownups showed...

The really good news: Other than a significant concussion and a badly
bruised sternum and left hand, she's OK.

So we're not sure what to do about Colorado. She obviously won't be riding
her own bike (although she wants to) because it won't be fixed yet and
there's no way the doc will clear her to ride, and I'm not even sure she
should be pillioning.

I may do detailed notes for some friends down here on the cause and on what
we did at the scene; if anyone wants a copy, let me know.

Sheesh. Can we stop falling, people!!
