[ST] Re: st-digest V2001 #711



Rich,
First off, you should keep the stock chain length with any of the sprocket
combos listed in the FAQ http://www.triumphnet.com/st/faq/chain/index.html

Assuming approximately 5000rpm @ 80mph with stock 19/43 gearing, the
following sprocket combos will roughly change rpm as follows
19/45 +250
18/43 +300
18/45 +500
17/43 +600
17/45 +850

For any given speed, the formula is as follows...
(Original RPM X New Ratio)/Old Ratio = New RPM

17/45 will give you the fastest acceleration, but the lowest top end.
Adding teeth to the back is basially the same as subtracting teeth from the
front.  If you are looking for a happy medium, I would suggest 18/43.
