[ST] Re: Header Coating Stuff

jet coating stuff (not the technical term, but i'm not technical)

The technical term is ceramic coating, and there are several companies that
do it. I believe Jet Hot and High Performance Coatings are two of the
biggest. I've seen several headers that have been done by JH, and it seems
like they do good work. I went with HPC (http://www.hpcoatings.com), because
they had a color unavailable from JH. Like you, I wanted ceramic coating
purely for aesthetic reasons. I didn't like the look of bluing headers and
golden pipes. I tried polishing them, but that provided very temporary
relief.

I've had it now for about 6 months 6k miles, and except for a few blemishes
caused by me (running over a plastic bag, melting boot rubber from my heel,
a scrape due to bottoming out the suspension) it looks as good today as it
did the day it was unpacked.

Both HPC and JH have several locations throughout the country. Turnaround
time varies greatly depending on how backed up they are, but they'll give
you an estimate before you send it to them. Mine took about 4 weeks. IIRC,
HPC is a little more expensive than Jet Hot. But neither will set you back
more than $200.

You're welcome!
