It sounds like you are going to the bike, switching it on and then finding
the battery is too low to start.  The engine management computer sees the
battery low voltage and stores it as an engine fault.  You then take out the
battery, recharge it and start the bike OK, but the Triumph gameboy has to
be used to clear the fault light.

This is normal behaviour if the battery runs down and you then try to start
the bike.  It'll happen every time, unfortunately.  I'd suggest getting a
battery tender - one of the smart ones that does a discharge/charge cycle,
not a simple battery charger.  You can simply plug it into the accessory
socket on the left side of the bike and then leave the bike for months, even
with the alarm on.  A battery tender will cost 30-40 pounds in the UK.
