[ST] Hieroglyphics

Would one of the math scholars on the list explain what this is doing on the 
tach of the RS?  How does this indicate RPM's?  If the tach needle was 
sitting on 3, where would you insert the 3 into this equation? (I hope I got 
it right, I'm away from the bike as I type).
