[ST] Return to list

Howdy Folks,
Been a loooong time since I have lurked on the list. Having endured
an eight month employment layoff (including a five month layoff from the 99
Sprint ST due to lack of health insurance and needing 24K service) it is
sure nice to be "back in the fold"! I have been lurking around for a couple
of weeks now and thought I would put in my two cents on a couple of the
current issues/threads.
1.)Lance (Bogged in Beantown): The problem you are experiencing sound
exactly like the same problem I had two weeks after picking up my '99 ST two
years ago. Turned out to be a faulty crank case sensor. The EFI computer
could not recognize that the clutch was pulled in, nor that the tranny was
in neutral. This prevented the bike from starting. It would turn over, and
all the electrical components were functioning just fine. Triumph fixed it
under warranty and I was told that they have had this problem on other
models as well.
2.)Richard & Lisa: If memory serves me you guys are in Texas. You might want
to add "Water Wetter" to your cooling system for future track days. Due to
the higher engine temps (obvious, I know) generated at the track, this
really makes a difference. Most noticeable in the clutch action through the
duration of the day. Have a great time, I've done Keith's school and it is
one of the best out there. Freddy Spencer's is probably the only one I got
more out of and I should have...NOT cheap!
3.)On the subject of heated clothing and cold weather riding: Gerbring is
awesome! I am in Atlanta and we ride year round here. This included a
somewhat questionable decision to do a 1500 mile ride in February last year
due to my layoff. With the heated grips and Gerbring jacket liner plus
wearing my raingear over the leathers and boots (can't emphasize how much of
a difference this makes) I was "comfortable" in 20 F weather. My only
problem was the condensation from my breath freezing on the inside of my
shield!
OK enough for now. Didn't mean to run on, but boy is it nice to be back! I
missed you guys!

Thanks for the soapbox,
Dave Smoot
