Dude:
Assuming that you're not a total weenie arm, you should be able to 
tighten the filter enough with your bare hands. I've never had one
leak yet. 

Now, for other suggestions on the filter.

FRAM has come up with a replacement that's got a hex nut affair 
on the bottom of the filter that you can get hold of with a 
17mm socket. Supposed to work real special ;^)  

I've been using a NAPA Gold 1356 filter on both of our Triumphs AND 
the Honda ST1100. The 1356 is about 3/4 of an inch longer than the 
OEM filter so you can get hold of it with a regular old filter wrench.
