the clutch cutout switch is up by the lever.  with the cable broken,
the state of the switch (on or off) is unrelated to the state of the
clutch (always engaged).  the other cutout switch is the sidestand
switch, which of course should remain up while operating the motor
vehicle.  :-)

starting in gear works fine on the RS -- that's how i got home when
my clutch cable broke.  well, that and power-shifting.  (i probably
_could_ have gone the whole way home in 1st, given the redline and
the gearing.  but i think i made it up to third at some point.)
