Evening All,
In regard to chilly weather; I have always ridden both motorcycles and
mountain bikes year round in central Maine. Lowest temp ride record was -23
F. That was chilly.
I have found that a pair of North Face Gore-tex Iceclimbing gloves (good for
that too) are fabulous. Very thick material, somewhat armored finger backs
(good for the rocks that come off of "sanding" trucks) and they have a very
long gauntlet which happily fits over a jacket full of sweaters and such.
Although they come with liners, I usually wear my armored gloves under them,
but a nice thick pair of gloves fit there too, which is good, because I use
them in the summer for rain riding.
I spent about $50 on them 8 years ago, they still are holding up fine, which
is great because I also use them for back country skiing, shoveling in the
winter and camping on top of my motorcycle usage. Great grippy palm and they
are made of some wicked tough material. Totally happy with them for all
seasons.
Also, I picked up some pseudo Gore-tex skiing pants a few years ago, with
zips up each side. Same basic set up as the North Face gloves and they work
very well as either wind breakers or rain suits (except this year the seam
sealing has finally given out, so a wet crotch has led me to looking for
something else).
As another list member says...
