was/is a total-enclosure type chain guard. One of my brothers friends (now
long out of contact) got over 30k miles out of one of the big Kawasakis
using the thing. It only weighed about 2-3 pounds, and although it wasn't
stunningly attractive it did keep the back end of the bike clean and
obviously worked wonders for chain life. Anyone know anywhere to get these
things?

This sounds very interesting to me, because I think the almost complete lack
of rear brake function my '99 ST suffers from is due to chain lube (from my
Scottoiler) reaching the brake disc, which I think occurs because the brake
disc is only 4" from the chain, due to the single sided swing arm design. On
a bike with a standard double sided swing arm the rear brake disc is about
twice that distance from the chain. Thus some sort of chain enclosure would
be a great boon to the ST. Could I still use the Scott oiler with the
Protechtor fitted? Where Do I get a Protechtor? Dave Collins, San Diego
