I have just returned from a fortnight in Turkey where, although helmets
are required by law, nobody apart from the police wears them. The dress
code for motorcycle riding is, truly, shorts and flip-flops with optional
T-shirt, no gloves - although the guy on the Fireblade did have trainers
and a pair of Oakley's on. There was no apparent priority at junctions -
the priority was if you got there first you were OK unless the other
driver was a 'Taksi' (sic) or a bus, in which case you'd lost. The road
surface was somewhat undulating - I'd maybe consider a Tiger but not my ST
which was fortunate as I was there to sail and had not transported my
trusty steed there.

The motorcycling sight of the fortnight had to be the Motorcycle Polis
with his weekly shopping hanging off the left handlebar in a plastic
supermarket bag - can just imagine a dayglo and white Pan with a Tesco's
bag hanging off its blue light in downtown Exeter - not.

On the subject of Motorcycle Police I have just heard that the Devon and
Cornwall mob are to take delivery of a few R1's as they have a problem
keeping up with the locals. Watch out on the A38 and A361 for the blue
models with the black and white checkered pattern on them and don't be
tempted to race them :-)
