RE: [ST] Electrics

Wow...it is 6.5 ohms/foot. From their website, it seems that the nichrome
wire is designed for 115V ac circuits.

For example: Assuming your liner needs 50 Ft of wire and you want a 40 watt
circuit, you need 3.6 ohms of resistance (at 12V). You could use a 28 or 29
gauge copper wire, or a whopping 13 gauge nichrome wire. Looks like you'll
be running real big wire, or lots of small ones.

The copper wire that I got is tephlon coated for lower voltage heat
applications. Maybe get some of this instead?

Got it. Thanks!

I think I see where the misunderstandings re
resistance / foot are coming from. You are using
copper, while I am using nichrome. We just started
from different sources.

pure copper is .10371 Ohms / ft for 30 gauge
nichrome is 6.75 Ohms / ft for 30 gauge

This comes from a cool wire info calculator available
for free at http://www.wiretron.com/design.html

Thanks again,

Rich
