The ST's have been know to have stiff gear boxes that loosen up with proper
break-in. Mine at 16K still sometimes seems stiff going into 2nd, but I just
rev it up to 7 or 8K and it goes right in. Others can chime in and back me
up on this, but from earlier discussions, you don't want to be short
shifting early in your bike's life. Rev 'er up above 6 or 7K before
shifting, and it should loosen up for you.
