[ST] Re: Shifting Woes

While I have to admit that I have never had any stiff shifting
problems with my RS, I will offer a suggestion for another shifting
technique that you might want to try using. Try a clutchless upshift.
I'm not talking about a full throttle racer type of thing, but a gentle,
efficient shift. Here's how to do it:
When you are ready to shift, lift steady and with moderate pressure on
the lever. Don't use the clutch. Then, with constant pressure on the
lever, roll off the throttle just a bit. If all is working well, the
lever will snick into the next gear, and you can roll the throttle back
on. All this will happen very smoothly.
Please note: This is only good for upshifting. Don't try to
downshift with this technique. If this fails, I would try the
suggestion of revving to a higher RPM before doing a normal upshift with
the clutch.
If all else fails, try changing the oil. I have found that Torco full
synth really improves the shifting action in other bikes that I have
owned, but have yet to try it in the RS. I have four quarts on the
shelf, waiting for the bike to reach 4K miles. It costs about $8 a
quart, which is less than what Triumph charges for their Mobil
synthetic. While I have tried other MC specific oils in my bikes, I
have never found another oil that makes a bit of difference in the
shifting, but the Torco really does. I have, however, had a clutch
start slipping after using car oil (Castrol GTX), and will stick with
the MC specific oils from now on.
BTW, I have no connection whatsoever with Torco. I'm just impressed
with their product.

PS: Isn't it about time for the Oil thread? lol
