I am sure someone may have mentioned this but in the interest of redundancy.
Spend $30 and get a handlebar harness from Canyon Dancer,  it is simple and 
ingenious and very secure.  I have used it with my ST and my friends BiMota, 
and even a Valkarie.  Highly reccomend.  I protects the tank and very 
securely holds the bike.
