Yes I did something like this-I have the Triumph rear luggage rack that the 
Triumph top box attaches to, and passed the flat aluminum bar under the rear 
edge of the rack, drilling holes in it to match the 2 slots at either side of 
the rack-the bolts have to be angled a bit-don't tighten them too much or you 
will fracture the aluminum that forms the slot DAMHIKT (Don't Ask Me How I 
Know This) Use aircraft-type self locking nuts instead. Easy to take off the 
bike when you are not on a trip. Dave Collins, San Diego
