RE: [ST] did this guy deserve to wreck?

Strange as this may sound, there could be some truth to his claim. However,
its not the GRIPS that are at fault. Now, I think he's exagerrating the
effect. Combine a very warm rubber grip, a nice accumulation of "body gunk"
(dead skin, hand oils, road oils, etc), and a very warm and humid day, and
voila, instant yucko tacky. Of course, few of us would find ourselves
encountering this because a) we keep our bikes somewhat cleaner, and b) we
wear gloves. The gloves prevent the transfer of gunk to the grips, and also
prevent the hydrostatic surface tension.

If you encountered this phenomena, my guess is the "surprise" of it could be
enough to throw your concentration for a moment, resulting in a stupid
accident. Mind you, its the SURPRISE that causes the accident, not any real
adhesive power of the gooey grip. The surprise wouldn't be much of a factor
in most circumstatnces, unless, of course, the rider is doing silly things
on the bike.

He claims that when he was leaving work (not sure if
he was taking lunch or leaving for the day) that his
grips were so tacky from sitting in the sun that he
couldnt take his fingers off the grips to grab the
brake, and that this tackiness caused the throttle to
stick open. I would call this more than 'tacky', I
think I'd go straight to crazy-glue sticky.

...
Anyone else out there have tacky grips?
