[ST] West Virginia "Almost Heaven" . . .

List:

Christine and I just got home (to Portland, Texas) late last night from the
Eastern Ralley. It was a long trip from the coast of Texas (about 4300
total miles) to West Virginia and back but well worth it.

The Good:

1.Staying at great B&B's in Texas (yes, it took a day to get to the end of
Texas from the coast), Arkansas, and Kentucky as well as the wonderful
roads, sights, smells, and sounds in West Virginia and along the way.
2.Riding with Richard and Lisa White doing a "pre-run" of the "short route"
the day before the Ralley officially started.
3.Riding the "long" route with Chris Hull and Donald Payne. I had a great
ride and learned that I was merely a competent rider compared to these guys.
It was sometimes difficult keeping up even riding my Daytona.
4.Drinking beer with Dennis and Kevelyn, Kevin, Chris, Donald, Lisa and
Richard and everyone at the end of the day. Special thanks to Dennis and
Kevelyn for showing me that neat MP3 recorder/playback machine which holds
about a million albums (I mean CDs) of music.
5.West Virginia is wonderful.
6. Barbeque in Knoxville, TN

The Not so good:

1.Pete Berg's "mishap". (Pete is a good guy and I hope to see him at the
next Ralley).
2.Some of the food places along the way up and back were awful!
3.Driving back on the interstate.
4. Mississippi and Louisiana-does it always rain in those states? Every
time I go through these states, it's raining.

By the way, special thanks to Richard and Lisa White. Getting to the
Ralley early, I saw how hard both of them worked to make the Ralley a
success. Not only did they preride the routes, they stayed with Pete when
he went down (all day at the hospital), and they got up early each day to
give the rider's instructions in the morning and stayed up late to have a
beer with everyone. We will miss Lisa as a director (and Richard as an
unofficial director).
