[ST] Re: Laugh or Cry / lane splitting

I think I know the guy who wrote the piece on that site. But he didnâ??t mean for it to show up in the â??satireâ?? category.

Last year a friend gave me a ticket to a NASCAR race at Fort Worth, Tx. The track is about a three hour run down the interstate for me, so I hopped on the Sprint ST early that morning. It was a beautiful morning to ride, until the I-35 split [I-35E to Dallas, I-35W to Ft Worth]. Almost as soon as I hit I-35W, traffic was stopped. 15 miles of NASCAR fans, walking-pace / stop-and-go traffic on an interstate. It took me about a millisecond to decide to split the lanes and go down the middle.

The boneheads who actually think like the satire writer did an exemplary job of demonstrating their minimal wisdom. At least a half dozen times, a car would see me coming and, in true Dale fashion, move to block the seam. I would wait patiently for 30 seconds, another path would open, and I would slip past. These guys obviously [verbally] wanted me to get in line, take my turn, and suffer with the rest of them. The fact that I wasnâ??t going to take their parking spot when I got there, and would be long gone through the line before they even shut down the jacked-up black Suburban Diesel with the Harley pipes and the big â??#3 Foreverâ?? sticker, was lost on them. It wasnâ??t my fault that they chose to drive a road hog, along with 200,000 other people going to the same event â?? and it wasnâ??t my fault that traffic control at the track was so idiotic [and exponentially worse on the way out â?? enough that I will politely decline any more free tickets].

There were just as many people who made room, or gave a wistful smile watching me get through the mess. Bless them. But generally, NASCAR fans arenâ??t sport-bike people.

If you really want a fun time at the Ft Worth track, go there on a non-race weekend and rent time in a race car on the track â?? see http://www.teamtexas.com/index2.htm . Now THATâ??s a blast.
