My recollection is 85 newton metres or 62.5 foot pounds. The bolt on the 
slider is rated between 45 and 62 pounds. If anyone has a manual here, can 
they please speak up with the Triumph recommended torque for the original 
engine bolts?

I am not trying to make more work for you -- the slider removal is just a 
thought, but I suppose that it's not a bad idea to rule it out as a cause. I 
also hope that the cause is not something buried deep in the motor...
