Lack of nipples, old chap.
Doubtless the Y3/24K point is not critical, but it's like most preventative
maintenance - you do it at a convenient waypoint along with a whole host of
other work.
Last time I looked into it you need to strip the swinging arm pivot, the
tools for which are (prices ex-Lilley June 2001):
T3880290 wrench, swinging arm clamp which is GBP15.00
T3880295 wrench swinging arm lock at GBP22.50
You should be able to get away without a chain splitter, but there're a few
other non-standard standard tools [sic] that you'll need to get that far...
Saying it's a lot of work is being unnecessarily negative... It's FUN ~:)
