[ST] My new ST - 2 days old...

Hi all,

I took delivery of my new 2002 ST last Saturday. Just thought I'd share the
experience, as (other than liking the colour) my Missus isn't interested!

I cleaned up my '95 Trophy as best as I could in the foul weather we've had
here (in London, UK), and, after running some errands headed for Jack
Lilley's. Since they'd recently serviced the Trophy it was going well, so I
gave it a last blast down the A316 to say "goodbye".

Got to JLs and ran through the paperwork. They gave me a fair trade-in on
the Trophy (1200UKP) and we headed to the back to check over the ST.
Ooooohhhhhh a new bike. The sales guy showed me all the relevant controls (I
think they have to do this by law) and I quizzed him about suspension
adjustment, chain adjustment and so on. I can't believe only 3500rpm as a
first running-in stage!

So, after shooting the breeze a bit and looking for the front preload
adjusters (hidden under the bar riser caps, but it took us a few minutes to
figure out!) they rolled the bike out front for me.

There I was, putting my lid on, wondering if I could at least get out of
sight of the shop without doing anything embarassing! The ST was so easy to
ride, I headed off feeling totally at home. The bar risers made a big
difference compared to the stock demonstrator I'd borrowed, but the rpm
limit was a pain...

And then, I saw it. Wondering how fast 3500 was in 4th I looked at the
speedo. I am NEVER doing 60mph .... It's a KM/H speedo! Bugger. So, back to
JL. Turns out the bike (and a bunch of other leftover 2002s) came back from
Europe, with dealers refitting UK-specific bits. Also, it looks like the
headlamps dip the wrong way.

Well, at least JL stepped up to the mark - it's booked in for Thursday for a
new speedo and lights. And they'll lend me another ST for the day, so I
guess that's OK ish.

Cheers, all
Ian
