This story about helmets appeared in today's Oregonian.  The link should get

The Portland Police officer referred to in the story was injured seriously
when a duii woman pulled out in front of him causing a crash.  The 'old
style' helmet referred to is an open face classic police style helmet.  PPB
is in the process of getting flip up full face helmets for its motor
officers.  Anyway, some info on helmets.
