RE: [ST] Jackets

Dave,

I have First Gear leather, and two Triumph textile jackets. My son has a
Motoport Canyon II jacket, and I looked at dozens of different offerings
before deciding on the Motoport for him. In retrospect, if I'd checked out
the Motoport before I bought the Triumph Sympatex Paddock jacket, I would
have one of those for me also.

Don't get me wrong, the Triumph stuff is excellent, it's just that that
particular Motoport jacket is exceptional in design. It has 2 separate
zip-in liners. One is waterproof Aerotex (a Goretex-like microfiber), the
other is a nice quilted thermal liner. The liners can be used in any
combination, or none at all (obviously.) It has vents in the sleeves, the
back, the sides, good amour, plenty of Scotchlite for visibility, a cinch
belt, and lots of pockets. The fit is perfect, good tailoring. While the
Triumph Sympatex has a waterproof membrane as part of it's construction,
being able to remove that liner on the Canyon II makes it a much cooler
jacket in hot climates. In fact, a friend has one and he actually wets it
down on REALLY hot days, for personal air-conditioning.

The Triumph Sympatex Paddock is very good, and it's liner is a better one
that the Motoport, but it doesn't breathe as well. No zippered vents.
:-( But it was only $200US, after my R.A.T. discount (at the show truck),
where the Canyon II lists for $289 and is rarely discounted much by dealers.
Well worth the expense.

I've seen many other good jackets from IXS, Hein Gericke, Cycloak, First
Gear, Joe Rocket and more, but none offer the vesatility of my son's jacket.
Spoiled brat! The new offering from Joe Rocket *does* look pretty good
though.

But with the cold temps here in Central Pa, I am finding out my old
leather jacket just isn't good enough. Has anyone tried the new
Revolution jacket by Joe Rocket?? I'm looking for something warm,
waterproof, with a removable liner for warmer temps.<snip>
