RE: [ST] Check Engine Light

Chris,
A lot of things can cause the light(Malfunction Indicator Light -- MIL) to
come on that are not serious at all. Running out of fuel (don't ask),
drained battery are the first to come to mind. After three full heat cycles
(bike cold -- bike fully warm -- bike cold) it will USUALLY clear its self.
If it doesn't you'll need a trip to the dealer. Make sure you are using the
key to turn off the bike and not the emergency switch on the handlebar, this
may either cause the MIL to come on, or at the very least it may not be
counted as a proper shut down during the three heat cycles.

  YMMV,

Subject: [ST] Check Engine Light

Howdy all,

I have a used 2001 ST (2300 miles - no modifications) which is still under
warranty and this past weekend and noticed that my check engine light came
on. The bike ran fine and, other than the light being on, there wasn't any
other indication of a problem. What are some things I can check to see what

caused the problem? Is there a way to reset the light (turn it off) without

a special tool? I live about 45 minutes away from the nearest Triumph shop
and would rather avoid taking it in if I don't have to.

TIA

Chris Warren
