Re: [ST] Oil Level

Hi Dave and STers
I think the reason that you end up with left over oil, is that you and I
have different opinions as to how much oil to put into the engine. I drain
my oil and filter, I dont let it sit 15 minutes. I replace the plug and the
filter. I then pour a ALL the oil in the prepackaged Mobil 1 4TRace Oil.
This fills the sight glass almost full, leaving a small clear space just
above the top graduation. I believe THIS indicates the correct amount of
oil in the crankcase. The 2 graduations indicate safe operation area. Big
Red does not use any oil, does not puke it out into the aircleaner either,
the level at 3K is just the same as when I changed it. Also-when you send
it to the dealer for an oil change, the dealer also fills the motor using
ALL the oil. When you pick it up it registers just the same as I describe.
You dont really think the dealer fills the motor to a level between the
lines of the sight glass do ya? What would he do with the left over oil?
Why would Triumph engineer a engine to take an odd quantity of oil? I know
the Brits to be a hard headed lot, just look at the new Bonney-how do ya
like the dogleg in the exhaust? Looks Great Huh? And look at the fasteners
in both side cases-hex head bolts are bad enough, but just look at the Ugly
ears the bolts fit thru. But I dont think they would do that.
