The only damage would be to the paint, assuming a typical fumble. To do 
significant damage to the liner you need to have something (i.e. your 
head) inside it when the helmet hits the pavement. Otherwise there isn't 
enough mass to cause the shell to deform. (All bets are off if you drop 
the helmet from the top of the Eiffel Tower, though. :-)

I, too, used to believe that a single drop of a helmet would spell the 
end of the helmet, but according to several manufacturers in the latest 
helmet comparison in Sport Bike (? magazines aren't handy) that's not 
the case.

As for Ben's note that Arai made the policy change because of 
Chaparral's exchange policies, it seems spiteful to screw all of your 
customers just because one of your retailers is screwing a small number 
of them. (IMHO, YMMV, etc.)
