Colin,

You can fit a 17t or 18t countershaft sprocket without having to
shorten the chain.  You will notice an acceleration improvement
with the 18t, see about 4 - 500 rpm increase at highway speeds in
6th---about the same as running in 5th instead of 6th---and loose
a bit of fuel efficiency.

Needless to say if you fit the 17t, you'll *really* notice an
improvement in acceleration and have a correspondingly higher
cruise rpm & fuel usage.
