Eric makes a good point, Val. Check the preload setting. I'm
165 lbs (75kg). When my bagless ST was new last summer, it did
exactly what you describe. It felt OK on moderate speed sweepers
but when ridden more briskly in the twisties, it was unnerving.
It took two full turns more preload (clockwise) to correct the
problem. When I carry a passenger or load up the bike I increase
preload accordingly.

Suggest you add 3-4 full turns & see how it feels. It may take
more than that. The adjuster takes an 8mm (5/16") hex or slot
screwdriver through the hole in the frame above the shifter. I
now carry a 1/4" drive ratchet, extension and socket in my tank
bag for easy adjustments on the road.
