Florida "twisties"

Mitch

If you are from anyplace else on earth, you will be woefully disappointed by
the "twisties" in Florida. I moved here 5 years ago from the mid-Atlantic
and it is the biggest negative to an otherwise great place. If Florida had a
mountain range a few miles inland, ala Calf. the real estate would be
priceless. Anyway, you have to focus on the unique locations that Fla has to
offer. Flat and straight is the rule of the day but there are different, out
of the way places that offer some interest. From Melbourne, ride SW and have
breakfast or lunch at the Desert Inn located in YEEHAW JUNCTION, Fla. no
kidding, that's the name. It is a unique place where chickens may be running
around inside the restaurant. From there head south and go to Lake
Ockeechobee. Take a look around the lake and maybe if time permits, take a
lap around the lake, stop in the SEMINOLE INN in INDIANTOWN, FLA. A word of
caution, the "law" is strictly enforced in most Florida counties. Be
careful with your speed, and, not that you would, do not plan on enjoying a
few beers during your ride. DUI laws are very vigorously enforced. Trust
me, after retiring from a 25 year career in law enforcement I am now employed
as a Public Defender in Ft. Pierce, Fl. about an hour south of Melbourne.
South of Ft. Pierce is a great road, Indian River Drive, it connects Ft.
Pierce with Jensen Beach, very scenic, and, unfortunately, 35 mph limit. It
is the closest to a twistie around, if you take in the "Drive" go over to
Hutchinson Island and head north to Ft. Pierce "south Beach". On south beach
is "Archie's" which is a great Sunday afternoon destination for the "Harley"
crowd. It's an outdoor bar across the street from the beach. Harley's,
fishermen, surfers, and retired condo dwellers all get along. Great burgers,
fish dip, and wings.
Good luck, I am a long time Triumph owner, (Bonneville and T-Bird Sport) who
will be picking up a new ST on Saturday. Can't wait.
