You shouldn't need to raise the front to adjust them.  You may want it
raised so you can "feel" if they are adjusted properly.  Just have a friend
sit on the passenger seat when the bike is on the center stand.

Question for those of you who have already adjusted your headset
bearings...what's the approved way to support the front end when doing it?
Remove the fairings and support it under the engine? My forks feel slightly
loose after 5,000 miles.
