RE: [ST] The Smiley Bag incident

Dave,

I try not to dump it whilst riding in general much less for practice or fun.
For me I have found amateur road racing has been a big help in learning not
to panic in the first place. All kinds of shit happens on a track when
nobody means for it to which forces you to learn to deal with surprise
situations in a semi-controlled environment.

For me the best braking drill I ever did was at a Freddie Spencer school
where we spent a few hours in the morning learning how to break very
efficiently and VERY SMOOTHLY. While the purpose was centered around
learning to go faster by minimizing chassis inputs while maximizing braking
the benefit has been many fold on the street as well. It is useful in a race
when you are trying to out brake a guy going down the inside or on the
street when the unexpected refrigerators ends up in your path. If you want
to see what it is like to lock up the front end safely you can check out
Keith Code's school and ride his bike kitted with outriggers just for this
purpose. I haven't done it myself but I hear it is an interesting ride.
