[ST] check light

Had some problem today. the engine check light came on & the fuel gauge
(sender & Gauge already replaced) started going up & down more like a tacho.
The light is on permanantly & the gauge appears to show full but does drop
when the motor is switched off.
Any suggestions, the dealers is 90 klm away so hoping to sort it without
taking it to the city.
