I got over 10K miles from my original rear pads on my '99 ST.
Switched to EBC HH double thickness 8K miles ago and they still look like
new.

For contrast, the rear pads on my '02 Speed Triple were completely shot
after 4300 miles.
Same rider, same style.
I gave the caliper a thorough examination and it's perfect so I guess
Triumph are just using a different compound pad these days. Probably to
alleviate complaints of poor rear brake performance, which some people (not
myself) seem to suffer.
