Aha! It was easier the last time I did it, due to the bike being up on
stands (Handy Industries) when I took the wheels off for new skins. That
boosts the rear end up another inch at least, maybe more, so I wasn't
hallucinating (this time) about that going easier than this last job w/
the rear brake pads.
I don't know if there's room to do this "top to right, bottom to
left" twist but will give your trick a try if not, as this sounds like
just the trick if I can figure it out.
