RE: [ST] Chain issues/questions

I'm just going through some old posts and I found this.

If you're still looking for an answer, I can tell you I checked regularly,
and didn't find a reason to tighten my chain until ~5500 miles.

I'd also check out the archives, as I know there have been many varying
stories of chain wear.

Subject: [ST] Chain issues/questions

Hello everyone,
I suppose this has been covered in the past...however. My ST has 2800
miles on it now and I have been trying to measure the chain slack (gonna
make some sort of gauge when I get a chance) and it seems now at 2800 it has
about 37-39mm of play. Very close to maximum. My question is...is 2800 miles
and the above play fairly normal...excessive...better than?? What kind of
intervals is everyone else getting out there? Is is better, when I adjust
the chain, to be at the very low of the tolerance? I have been putting lube
on the chain at about 300 to 500 mile intervals. Too much...too little?
Thanks for your input. This is a great forum!
Heading up through the Salt River Canyon in the late morning...WOOHOO!!!!
