G'day All,
A couple of months ago i was complaining (yes bitterly) about the crap
handling of my 99 ST and found amongst other things the rear wheel was
loose, i think something like a 1/8 inch play at the rim, discovered the 2
roller bearings on the drive or sprocket side were shagged, this is at
13000kms. After pulling apart the hub, i found the outer of these had
started to fail thus putting more load on the inner, it was getting ready to
fail also. Replaced the bearings with a pair of Nachi bearings which are
generally of good quality (being out in the bush it can be hard to get a
good SKF etc bearing in under 2 weeks), instantly the ride improved. I
checked the wheel again after 1000kms and theres a little play, according to
the dealer it's normal. Hmmmmmm. I think Matts got a good point about the
SSSA needing a rethink, surely there should be no play at all??
