RE: [ST] Non-premium fuel

I used non-premium fuel for a while when I first
bought my ST. Once I switched to the 92 oct I noticed
the engine was more eager to pull from a low RPM that
would have bogged it before. My lowest safe RPM was
around 3500 RPM w/ 89 oct, and around 2000/2500 RPM w/
92 oct. depending on the gear. A very clear
difference, No notable high RPM performance or MPG
difference.

What I would like to point out is that detonation
(ping) can be happening even if it is not audible, It
can gradually cause damage even if you cant quite hear
it. If you can hear the ping you are certainly doing
your engine no favors. do some low RPM pull aways and
roll-ons, then go fill up w/92 and try the same
maneuvers. I would easily bet most will see a
difference. For most cars/trucks 92 oct. is a total
waste of $$ but for high compression and/or air cooled
engines the added oct. can be a very good thing.
