Re: [ST] Gear ratios year to year

I have 17t & 18t sprockets and installed the 17t primarily for
improved low-speed tractibility. There is noticably more zip in
all gears and it definately pulls away from a stop better. On
the highway it amounts to ~2mph slower per 1000rpm over the 19t.
Gas mileage suffers a bit, though I still get over 50US mpg when
cruising in the 5-6k rpm range. If I did more high speed
touring, I'd probably run the 18t for its more relaxed rpm at
cruise.

Au contraire, you probably gained top end and would probably gain
more with the 17t sprocket. Assuming a 9500rpm rev limit, with
the 19t, you were geared for over 170mph! NO WAY will a stock ST
pull that kind of gearing. Using the same rev limit, the 18t
would yield just over 160mph, & the 17t just over 150. I'd be
surprised if you could redline the 17t in 6th.
