Hrm, not sure why your speedo needle does that.  I'm sure you
probably could open the face and mess with it, though I don't recall
hearing about anyone who has before.

One quick, easy alternate solution is to get a Sigma BC800 bike
computer.  $25 and installs in less than half an hour.
