[ST] Adjusting steering angle...

Many thanks to those who replied...

To answer a couple of people who suggested dropping the 'bars again - I want to avoid doing that as it isn't only a question of weight on my wrists, the higher bars make my lower back more comfortable; tilting the bike forwards via suspension adjustments keeps the back problem fixed, although it will add a little more weight on my wrists.

Trying to make the necessary difference without getting to the "twitchy" point seems to be the critical problem. "Stephen E. Hale" <Stephen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>'s 10mm through the triple trees seems to be the easiest answer, but having Ohlins, maybe adjusting the back end would be better - I have no idea.

The instability I'm feeling, is sort of like an exaggerated version of the windblast/wash effect behind trucks, with bags. The bike doesn't feel unsafe, just sort of bobbles about a bit more than it did before. Previously, with stock bars and low screen and without bags, it was pretty much rock solid at any speed up to my personal chicken-out point (which gets lower as I get older!) "Making progress" on a deserted Interstate at about 110-120 (GPS speed, not the wildly optimistic speedo) was fine. Now the bike feels nervous just into triple digits. In general, I don't really like going that fast as things happen way too quickly, but sometimes you need to cover ground rapidly. In any cae, if I wanted to cruise at 75-80, I certainly don't need a Sprint!

For Marc with the Penskes: How did you come up with 1.5cm? Was that a sort of arbitrary choice or based on something? I don't know how easy/difficult the Penskes are to adjust. If you were doing it again, would you use the same 1.5 cm?

And yes, I realize it is a simple calculation to compare the effect of 10mm at the front vs 15mm at the back, but I suspect the real world effect isn't that striaght forward. Unfortunately, everything I REALLY know about steering geometry, I could write on the back of an envelope, using a four inch paintbrush.

Thanks again, one and all!

Alex
