RE: [ST] Shift linkage

That is exactly what power shifting is. It takes a lot of practice to get
it smooth (LOTS of throttle control). You can also downshift by it. The
obvious advantage is more constant power when accelerating/less "down-time"
with no power to the rear-wheel due to the clutch being in. Also, in order
for it to be smoother in the lower gears, you need to be accelerating hard -
it can be very jarring under mild acceleration. But then again, under mild
acceleration, you're not really looking/needing the performance gain.

Is that shifting w/o the clutch by applying upward pressure then gently (but
quickly) release then add power? I've experimented, and doing that from 1st
to 2nd is harsh. Probably because it's jumping NEU. But going up from 2nd
is fast and smooth though. Is that power shifting? If, not please explain.

One thing that I found has really made the shifting a lot smoother is power
shifting. I was experimenting with it on the Sprint, and subsequently the
shift action is significantly smoother and lighter when shifting normally.
And mileage does make a difference - and the harder you use the gear box,
the sooner it loosens up.
