This thread went around about 1.5 years ago.  The cleaning and pushing the
caliper pistons all the way in, then squeeze the brake to reseat the pads is
only a temporary fix.  They eventually go back to the long travel, soft feel
again.

However, you're right, it is the most cost effective solution.  IMO though,
if I had the money I'd install better after market calipers and pads.
However, I don't have the extra lettuce so I just deal with it and don't
push man & machine to the limits.

Cleaning the calipers and related components is going to be, IMO, the most
cost effective way to improve brake feel, followed by a well- performed
bleeding, and then, if necessary, pad replacement.  I'm no expert, but I've
witnessed the improvement a thorough cleaning can make on a first hand
basis, as done by fellow lister Ken Mitchell.
