Maybe you've got Teflon coated roads in your part of the world ..... Part 
of my mileage was a 600 mile round trip explore of the north of Scotland - 
and the single track roads up there "eat" tyres. One of the guys I was with 
was on his girlfriend's Tiger and I don't think she was best pleased with 
him when he came back with shredded tyres.

Looking around at my non-Triumph riding associates in the UK, about 
4.5-5.5k is about average for rear tyre life here. Those who run BT-010s or 
sportier get about 1k miles less. We all average about two rears for one 
front - although in the Bridgestone case it's well shot at 9k.
