RE: 020 Tyre pressure was: [ST] New ST owner - questions

Putting less air pressure in the tire will increase the traction of the tire
as the tire will deflect more creating a larger contact patch with the road.
This will also heat the tire up more quickly.

The downside is the tire can get really hot and will wear much more quickly.
Also, in the extreme, the tire will feel mushy around corners and the such,
and can be unsafe as the bottom area of the tire is flexing with each
revolution, which can cause a blow out.

Like most things, a balance needs to be found.

Subject: 020 Tyre pressure was: [ST] New ST owner - questions

My dealer told me to put less than the recommended 42psi in my new 020 when
I changed from the OEM 57s. (I now have 020 back and 010 front). I asked
about this (who governs tyre pressure? bike or tyre manufacturer) on the
list some time a go, but never received a clear reply/consensus. So perhaps
this is the time to ask again. Barry
