RE: [ST] Tire Pressures, a week behind the thread(s)...

I'm not disagreeing with you totally, but:

The Triumph owner's manual for my 00' RS says 37 front & 42 rear, which also
incidentally coincide with the MAX stamped on the tyre.

Also, with all these threads flying around I called Michelin directly as I
run 100X's and soon Pilot Road's. The technical "specialist" was glad to
help. I told him how much I weigh, I don't rid passenger or luggage, and
what my suspension settings are, how I typically ride AND asked him what
tyre pressure I should be running. I heard computer typing in the
background then he says 42 rear and 37 front is fine.

Now I've been running that in my 100X's for the last 9400 miles and I could
squeak another 500 out before I change them. I ran the same tyre pressures
with my stock Bridgestones (I think 020's) and only got 7300 miles out of
them.

Less pressure means bigger tyre patch, means more traction, means more heat,
means more wear. I guess it all boils down to riding style and personal
preference. There really is no magic number except the one that works best
for the individual doing the riding.

Holy smokes! You actually put 42PSI in your tire? The tire manufacturer
tells you the MAX pressure to put in, right on the side of the tire. That
doesn't mean it's the pressure YOU should run with. I run with 31/32 in the
front and 33-35 in the rear on my BT020s,
