[ST] Avon Azaro ST 45/46

Well, I had the new Avons mounted up this weekend. I'll be taking my
OWN rims off from now on, thank you very much!!! Dealer did a fine
job, but its just too much money for something I can do relatively
quickly :-)

I put about 400 miles on them Sunday after a brief scrub-in on
Saturday. Took a run through SE Ohio with they guy who does the maps
for the HSTA Mail Pouch Fly By. We wanted to try a few different
routes and wound up being out for about 10 hours, most of it riding.
We found 319 and 339 to be quite good, as well as 145. We usually take
26 out of Marietta, but 145 offers its own challenges and is worth
consideration. In addition, there was a part of 78 that was absolutely
intense. Its only a few miles, but it was VERY nice and worth hitting
again.

The Avons were flawless. The turn in MUCH quicker than the horrendous
BT-57's I had, and feel better than the BT-020's I had on a VFR and an
fZ-1 (but I can't fairly compare because different have different
results on different bikes). They hold a line extremely well, and the
bike felt planted through all corners regardless of lean angle (I
worked them completely side to side). Very good feedback. We did
encounter some rain early, but it was light and the roads were not
soaked. Still, on the "damp" roads we encountered, they were fine and
inspired enough confidence to allow me to continue riding at a
reasonable (albeit slightly slower) pace.

Ride quality is good, but more firm than the 57's and 020's I've used.
The tread depth on the tires is surprisingly deep; much deeper than a
set of 020's I just put on my FZ-1. More so on the rear than the
front, which is also deep, just not as pronounced. Of course, the real
test will be longevity; I got a whopping 2700 miles out of my BT-57's
which is unacceptable. I am expecting that these will do at least
twice that, and hopefully more.

Overall: a good tire so far, with confidence inspiring traction all
the way out to the edges of traction and good feedback for a tire of
this type. they show promise in the rain. I'm very happy so far with
them in terms of performance, and I'll keep the group updated as the
miles pile up.

Eric.
