[ST] VFR750 & Sprint RS....back to back riding comparo!

Well last night I cut out of work early to meet Mike
up on Rt 301 for a couple of runs. Traffic sucked in
the beginning but thinned considerably as time went
on.

Road our own bikes the first time up and back getting
used to the road and then swapped the second time.
Now of course I'm biased, but I'll try to remain an
objectionable as possible. It should be noted that
mike's VFR has 23-25k on it and mine has 2k. Mike had
older D205s and I had BT020s with 1800 mikes on them.

Sound - VFR (give driven cams, plus I bet his exhaust
has lightened up a bit for some more sound over time,
Sprint RS goes by in a whoosh. :p)

Engine - Sprint, very, very smooth and linear power.
Very smooth, made me think the usually regarded as
smooth, V-4, as a little rough.

Handling - A preference thing, I'm used to the Sprint
RS, Mike used to the VFR. But I feel the Sprint turns
in quicker. This may have been in part to mike's
tires, but I still feel the Sprint would be quicker,
though both bikes performed very well on 301. ;)

Ergos - VFR. The seat height is lower and bars are
closer to you. For me it's more about the reach, not
the bar height. Both bikes had genmar risers. VFR -
3/4 inch. Sprint RS 1 1/4 inch. VFR seat is firmer
(better) though Mike still thinks it sucks. :p Pegs
are a touch lower on the VFR also, but Mike liked the
security of the pegs being a bit higher on the Sprint
just in case. Neither bikes were uncomfy, and when I
add the Sprint St bars to my bike, that will add
another 1 inch of rise and they are swooped back more
so.

Top Gear- Sprint. Was just noticing as we rode home
on Rt 84 when passing. Mike down-shifted b4 passing,
I rolled on in top gear....though this may have just
been his habit. I guess there is no replacement for
displacement blah blah blah.

Shifting- VFR. Though the VFRs engagement point was
higher and made me move my foot up higher (I'm sure it
adjustable) his snicked, while my Sprint thudded.
Nothing wrong with the Sprint, I just liked the way
the VFR felt better.

On a side note....At one point two gixxer 600s pulled
up our asses and Mike was leading. He picked it up
and I was like "now we're having fun." We got stuck
behind a Cage and Mike started to back off to give the
cage some space, but I knew there was a straight
coming so I coasted to the lead and passed her on the
straight, except she floored it on the straight so
Mike and the other two guys couldn't get by. :( They
got stuck behind them for a bit while I hammered along
having a blast.

Funny thing was....I was loaded with my work clothes,
work papers and laptop in my ventura rack, and we were
both on ST machines (Sprint RS and VFR750) and these
gixxers couldn't gain an inch. (T-shirt and jeans
types) The guy who originally was in the lead let his
more experienced buddy go ahead of him so he could see
what he could do I guess, and the original guy in
front got left behind a good bit, but the other guy
could only stay with us by hammering it in the
straights I felt. He would drop back a little tiny
bit on corners. They didn't even stop at the end of
the run to say hi, too embarrassed? Made me giggle,
hahahaha.

Had a great time Mike! Let's do it again next week!
All local members welcome!

Bryce
