Re: [ST] Running without oil

My $0.02, well I would want a letter from the dealership stating
what they did, the text would be simple, "On Feb x, 2003, our
representative rode the bike with no oil. No oil was left in the
bike on our advice, and thus the dealership had fun knowledge of
the lack of oil in the bike. If in the future, with proper
maintance by the owner, any problems remotely related to lack of
oil will be cover by the dealership", Okay, I'm no lawyer, but
they will likely want some limited liability, adding in a
mileage and time. They may even request you to take good records
of your maintance.

But my guess is if they open the bike up to see if any damage
was done, if will probably be worse off. Since the bike did not
get up to full temperature, and I will assume the bike had been
operating in the previous week, my *gut* feeling is that there
would be enough oil on the rings and in the bearings so that no
damage was done. I would suspect it would be roughtly the same
as leaveing the bike sit for a year and starting it up.

I would suspect that a car engine with oil lifters would not
fair nearly as well.

And again, I am not a mechanic, not a lawyer, so take my advice
as worth as much as your paying for it.
