[ST] Heated gear followup

Since my original posting last month, I've been in touch with
Gerbings about the issue. Sadly, they weren't inclined to be
helpful. For those who are interested, the correspondence
follows:

I purchased a Gerbings heated jacket liner and Heat-troller last
month at the Seattle M/C show. At that time, I also got a pair
of adaptors which I modified to connect my older Widder gloves to
the Gerbings sleeve-end connectors.

Imagine my surprise on the next ride when at first, the jacket
liner didn't seem to work. By turning up the heat troller I
finally started to feel a bit of warmth on my upper body but by
this time my hands were seriously over-heated. I borrowed a
friend's Gerbings gloves & they seem to heat up to about the same
temp as the jacket liner, so it would appear that my old Widders
might use higher resistance wire.

I've heard that others have had the same problem which you
corrected by modifying the jacket liner's internal wiring. Am I
correct in assuming this is feasible? If so, should I return the
garment for modification or is this something I can do myself?

Thank you,
Rick Wescott

Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not connect Widder gloves to Gerbing wiring in this manner.
They are not compatable. You may void the warranty on all of the
products involved. The widder gloves are wired in series and our
wiring in the jacket is parallel. Please undo all modifications
you have made and call us if you need further assistance.

Dotty,

Thanks for your response. Please understand that when I
purchased the jacket liner, I spoke with your salesperson at the
Motorcycle show, explaining that I had Widder gloves & wanted to
connect them at the sleeve-end plugs. He provided the plug
adaptors which I modified for the job. Rest assured once I
realized there was a problem, I went back to my original
series-wired glove loom.

I want to operate the jacket liner and gloves from a single
control. You didn't respond to my last paragraph. Can you make
internal wiring modifications to create series-wired connectors
at the sleeve-ends?

Another question: A friend's Gerbing jacket liner has an
additional pair of plugs which, when connected together,
incorperate the glove circuit with that of the jacket liner.
Disconnected, they allow the use of a separate control for the
gloves. If you can't modify the wiring for the series-connection
requested, then perhaps you'd make this mod and simplify my task?

Sincerely,
Rick Wescott

Rick,
For liability reasons we will not do the type of modifications
you have
requested. It is not a question of whether we can or not, but
that we have
decided as a company to not put ourselves at risk by marrying
another
company's products in this way. The set up that your friend has
is a dual
liner using only Gerbing products.

I would appreciate knowing what show you were at that one of our
people gave you adapter plugs for, I need to correct this right
away so that it does not happen again and hurt someone.

Thank you,
Dotty Gerbing

Needless to say, I'm disappointed. End result? I opened up the
jacket liner & converted the sleeve-end plugs to series wiring
myself. This took about 35 minutes including the sewing :o|.
The liner & gloves now heat up at about the same rate :o).
